Shannon's route into hair extensions was not a straight line. She earned a degree in business administration, then followed what she actually loved and went to cosmetology school. She spent the next six years at Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon & Spa in Arlington, Virginia, five minutes from the Pentagon, working as a chemical specialist — color, perming and smoothing treatments were all she did. Red Door is also where she was first introduced to hair extensions, training in Great Lengths.
When she left Red Door and moved to Colorado, she was home with her children, and that is when she went deeper into extensions on her own, getting certified in Hotheads tape-in extensions and Hairdreams nano extensions. Once her kids were a little older she chose to follow her passion back behind the chair, and in 2017 and 2018 she made the decision that defines the salon today: extensions only. She loves taking something a woman has quietly felt insecure about and turning it into the thing she feels most confident about. That is the whole reason she narrowed down.
Shannon has earned certifications in sew-ins, hidden beads, tape-ins, keratin custom bonds, micro links, and recently added Combline extensions to her expertise. Since 2017 people from all over the United States have come to Light Styling to achieve their dream hair and experience wearing Natural Beaded Rows (NBRs). Owner and founder Shannon Reiley was the first artist in the State of Colorado to get certified in NBR extensions and now spends her time either behind the chair, or growing her education through the NBR program, gaining in class and hands-on experience with experts from California to the East Coast. When Shannon first started her venture, she immediately became obsessed with wearing NBR extensions herself. Being the only NBR certified stylist in Colorado, she drove all the way to Wichita, Kansas to see NBR stylist CJ Damm, owner of salon “The Shelter”. CJ and Shannon would continue to meet to do each other's hair, including maintaining their extensions which occurred every eight weeks. Shannon truly has always believed in and been committed to the NBR method and appreciates those who are willing to travel to Light Styling for beautiful hair.
